Knowing about bloodborne pathogens help reduce the risk of infection, help ensure a safer work environment, help protect the employee and others in that environment, and receiving ongoing training and knowledge help employees comply with regulations and procedures required by the employer and law. Employees should know the impact blood borne pathogens can have on their health and if they are exposed they should know the procedures to take: report to their management immediately and seek treatment.  When dealing with bloodborne pathogens, employees should wear proper ppe, use proper cleaning and disinfection practices, and proper handling and disposal of the contaminated equipment/area.

Proper cleaning and disinfection are needed to help prevent the transmission of blood borne pathogens for anyone coming in contact with these microorganisms within the scope of their duties due to the life threatening impacts. It is the duty of all cleaning staff to not only protect themselves but others, which starts with proper education and knowledge regarding bloodborne pathogens.
