At Georgia Commercial Maintenance and Cleaning Service, we are proud to announce that we are now officially IJCSA Green Cleaning Certified! This certification represents our ongoing dedication to providing eco-friendly commercial maintenance and janitorial services that protect both people and the planet. Our team has completed specialized training through the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA) to ensure that every cleaning method, product, and process we use meets the highest environmental standards. From the offices we maintain to the facilities we service, our mission is simple: deliver exceptional cleanliness while reducing our environmental footprint. When you work with us, you’re not only getting a spotless workplace — you’re choosing a safer, healthier future for your employees, clients, and community.

Implementing a green cleaning program into our daily operations is now a core part of how we do business. Every cleaning routine begins with the use of non-toxic, biodegradable, and low-VOC cleaning products designed to protect indoor air quality and reduce exposure to harmful chemicals. We rely on HEPA-filter vacuums, microfiber technology, and energy-efficient equipment to achieve deep, effective cleans without compromising sustainability. Our team practices waste reduction by reusing materials where possible, properly recycling containers, and using refillable dispensing systems to minimize single-use plastics. We’ve also integrated water-conservation techniques into our maintenance process, helping us uphold both our clients’ and our planet’s health.

Being IJCSA Green Cleaning Certified also allows us to educate our clients on the long-term benefits of sustainable cleaning — from improved air quality and reduced sick days to a smaller carbon footprint. We’re proud to be featured in the IJCSA Green Cleaning Directory, where environmentally conscious organizations can find certified companies like ours that share their values. At Georgia Commercial Maintenance and Cleaning Service, our philosophy is simple: Experience the difference with us. By combining professionalism, quality, and a commitment to sustainability, we’re redefining what it means to keep your commercial spaces clean — responsibly, effectively, and green.

In the cleaning and sanitation industry, employees often serve on the front lines of public health protection. Whether they are disinfecting a medical facility, cleaning a restroom, or responding to a biohazard situation, cleaning professionals can encounter unseen risks every day—among them, bloodborne pathogens such as Hepatitis B (HBV), Hepatitis C (HCV), and HIV. These infectious microorganisms can be transmitted through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids, and even a small exposure can lead to serious health consequences. For this reason, it is essential that every cleaning employee and supervisor not only understands the dangers of bloodborne pathogens but also knows how to protect themselves and others through proper training, protective equipment, and safe work practices.

Knowledge about bloodborne pathogens is not merely a compliance issue—it is a matter of personal and team safety. When cleaning staff are properly trained in OSHA’s Bloodborne Pathogens Standard, they gain the confidence and skills to handle potentially infectious materials safely. They learn to use Universal Precautions, meaning they treat all blood and body fluids as potentially infectious, no matter the source. They also understand the importance of wearing gloves, goggles, and other personal protective equipment (PPE), and of following strict procedures for cleaning, waste disposal, and decontamination. This training empowers workers to prevent accidents before they happen and to respond calmly and effectively if an exposure occurs.

A well-informed team also demonstrates professionalism and care for the clients they serve. When cleaning employees understand the “why” behind their safety protocols, they take greater pride in their work, knowing their diligence safeguards not only their own health but also that of their coworkers, clients, and community. In an industry built on trust and attention to detail, awareness of bloodborne pathogens reflects a company’s commitment to integrity and responsibility. For cleaning businesses, fostering this culture of safety means more than compliance—it means ensuring that every employee goes home healthy, protected, and valued at the end of each day.

As a professional in the field of cleaning and janitorial work, it is really important to train employees on the use of proper precautions against bloodborne pathogens.

As bloodborne pathogens can harm someone for a life time and even end their life, it is very important that each member of the cleaning team is trained and knows universal precautions.

Likewise, it is very important that as a Supervisor, I understand the risk of bloodborne pathogen contamination and can prevent such events from occurring.

Keeping healthcare facilities clean is about much more than appearances, it is about protecting people’s health. When patient rooms, hallways, and equipment are cleaned and disinfected the right way, the risk of dangerous infections drops dramatically. Studies and real world examples show that proper healthcare cleaning protects vulnerable patients, reduces the spread of germs, and gives staff and visitors peace of mind.

Every surface matters in healthcare, from high touch spots like bed rails and door handles to specialized equipment used in treatment. Cleaning gets rid of dirt and debris, and disinfection takes it a step further by killing the germs that remain. When both are done correctly, healthcare facilities are safer places for recovery and everyday care. This level of attention to detail is what makes the difference between just being clean and truly being safe.

At IJCSA, our members make healthcare cleaning a top priority. We focus on infection control, environmental hygiene, and using disinfectants the right way to give patients and staff the safest environment possible. If you want to find cleaning professionals who take pride in doing the job right, visit the IJCSA Janitorial Service Directory and connect with experts near you. With IJCSA members, healthcare cleaning is always handled with care and commitment.

In the cleaning and janitorial industry, employees are often the first line of defense in maintaining a safe and healthy environment. Understanding bloodborne pathogens is critical because these microorganisms—such as HIV, Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C—can be transmitted through contact with infected blood or bodily fluids. Without the proper training, employees may unknowingly expose themselves, their coworkers, and building occupants to serious health risks. Knowledge of bloodborne pathogens ensures that cleaning staff can recognize potential hazards and take immediate steps to protect themselves and others.

Training in bloodborne pathogens also equips cleaning professionals with the ability to properly use personal protective equipment (PPE), follow OSHA and CDC guidelines, and respond safely to accidents involving blood or bodily fluids. For example, knowing the correct disposal methods for contaminated sharps, rags, or gloves is just as important as cleaning the visible mess. When employees understand the risks and the correct procedures, they not only keep themselves safe but also reinforce the credibility and professionalism of the company they represent.

Finally, a workforce trained in bloodborne pathogen awareness helps strengthen customer confidence. Clients who hire cleaning services—whether in medical facilities, schools, or office buildings—expect that staff are prepared to handle sensitive situations with care and precision. By prioritizing education on bloodborne pathogens, companies show their commitment to health, safety, and compliance. This not only reduces liability but also builds long-term trust with clients who know their environment is being maintained by knowledgeable, well-trained professionals.

In the custodial business, great customer service isn’t just about doing a good job; it's about looking out for the client and making their environment cleaner and healthier. Every member of the International Janitorial Cleaning Services Association (IJCSA) knows that our work goes far beyond mops and buckets. We show up on time, take pride in what we do, and make sure every client feels heard and cared for. Whether it’s polishing floors, sanitizing workspaces, or handling special requests, we understand that small details make a huge difference. Our customers trust us with their buildings, their staff, and their safety, and we take that responsibility seriously.

What really sets IJCSA members apart is the way we treat people. We believe good service starts with good communication, being honest, respectful, and dependable. When a customer calls, we answer. When there’s a concern, we fix it. Every job, regardless of its size, receives our full attention. That’s what great customer service means to us: doing what we say we’ll do, caring about the results, and leaving every space better than we found it. When you hire an IJCSA member, you’re not just hiring a cleaning company; you’re choosing a partner who takes pride in making your environment shine, inside and out.

The importance of Understanding Bloodborne Pathogen risks

Bloodborne pathogens, like hepatitis B, hepatitis C, and HIV, lurk in blood and bodily fluids, posing serious risks to cleaning staff who handle spills or soiled materials. A simple cut, needlestick, or splash to the eyes can lead to infection if workers aren’t careful. For those in healthcare, hospitality, or schools, knowing how to safely manage these hazards isn’t just smart—it’s essential to protect themselves and others from life-altering diseases.

Proper training teaches staff to treat all fluids as infectious, use gloves and masks, and follow strict cleanup protocols. It helps them spot risks, like sharps or contaminated surfaces, and act fast to stay safe. This know-how prevents accidental exposures and stops pathogens from spreading, keeping workplaces and communities healthier.

Beyond safety, understanding bloodborne pathogens ensures compliance with OSHA rules, avoiding fines and legal trouble. It also boosts worker confidence, cuts down on injuries, and keeps operations running smoothly. Educating cleaning teams isn’t just about checking a box—it’s about valuing their health and building a safer, more reliable workplace.
