    Toronto, Canada  April 30, 2014

Clean-Slate Janitorial Services (http://www.Clean-Slate.ca), a Greater Toronto Area-based professional cleaning company that specializes in commercial office cleaning, retail maintenance, floor restoration, carpet cleaning, and construction site cleanup, is weighing in on the efforts of the business world going digital to cut back on paper waste.
“The adoption of digital software not only helps the environment, but increases workplace efficiencies. It’s actually a great thing to see so many offices focused on going digital and cutting out the need for paper,” says Sam Panousis, owner and operator of Clean-Slate Janitorial Services. “Any steps that can collectively be taken to help the environment are certainly positive.”
But going digital does more than just help the environment. Toronto is building the first completely digital hospital in all of North America and they acknowledge that fewer errors will be made on the floor, patient charts will automatically be updated, and check-ins for surgery will all be done via a kiosk. Panousis adds that creating a more efficient and effective system is a benefit of going digital that will directly impact the productivity of businesses, making it an all-around positive move. (Source: “North America’s First All Digital Hospital is Coming to Toronto,” CBC web site, April 16, 2013; http://www.cbc.ca/strombo/news/north-americas-first-all-digital-hospital-humber-river.html)
Some companies are taking it one step further and encouraging mobile workspaces. Panousis explains that a system is set up in which all the necessary data is remotely accessible by the employee on whichever device they choose. This gives workers more flexibility when possible, and as long as assignments are completed, they can theoretically operate from anywhere. (Source: Lambert, N., “Can a Mobile Workspace Help Deliver the Paperless Office?” Wired web site, April 22, 2014; http://innovationinsights.wired.com/insights/2014/04/can-mobile-workspace-help-deliver-paperless-office/)
“As far as inside of the office, adopting digital technology makes it easier to keep workstations clean,” Panousis concludes. “And when office cleaning services are required, their focus can be on more significant issues, such as floor cleaning and buffing, or deep carpet cleaning for coffee or other hard-to-remove stains.”
Clean-Slate Janitorial Services has been serving commercial customers in the Greater Toronto Area, including downtown Toronto, Vaughan, Mississauga, Brampton, and Markham, for eight years. Services provided by Clean-Slate Janitorial Services include commercial office cleaning, retail management and janitorial services, floor restoration and buffing, carpet cleaning, window and blind cleaning, and construction site cleanup. LAS VEGAS, Apr 29, 2014 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Air travelers in and out of Las Vegas now have an added measure of personal security in the form of an advanced cleaning technology. McCarran International Airport has installed Ecolab’s new Hydris TM cleaning system to help make the airport cleaner, safer and healthier for travelers and employees.

McCarran handles more than 42 million arrivals and departures annually, the nation’s ninth-highest passenger volume, which puts it in the top one percent of U.S. airports. On average, 115,000 people travel through the airport every day.

"We like the Hydris system because it generates three different solutions that are effective at cleaning and disinfecting our busy facility, but are also non-toxic, which is safer for our employees and the environment,” said Ralph LePore, assistant director, Terminal Operations Division for McCarran. “The system also helps us control costs with a monthly lease, reduced packaging waste and lower shipping expenses.”

A single Hydris unit dispenses three products: a one-step disinfectant; an all-purpose sanitizer and glass cleaner; and a multi-surface daily floor cleaner. The unit fits into a typical janitorial closet and utilizes advanced mineral tablet technology and water to generate the equivalent of 5,000 ready-to-use bottles of cleaner per one case of 200 tablets. Hydris provides great performance and value in a wide-range of large facilities, such as airports, college campuses and commercial buildings.

"Using Hydris is very simple," said Chris Steep, senior product development program leader for Ecolab’s Global Institutional business. "Mineral tablets inserted into the unit are mixed with filtered tap water to create a brine solution. This solution then flows through Ecolab’s three-chamber electrolytic cell, resulting in a product that is dispensed in the right amount and at the right dilution every time.”

Steep added that Hydris can generate a disinfectant solution with five-minute kill times for use as part of an infection prevention program or in response to flu or other outbreaks. The products are registered with the EPAi as effective at killing pathogens that include Influenza, Norovirus E.coli and MRSA (antibiotic-resistant bacteria), along with odor-causing bacteria. McCarran International Airport is among the first airport facilities to adopt the Hydris system.

McCarran’s janitorial supplier, WAXIE, introduced Hydris to the airport as an innovative option for achieving their cleaning and sanitizing goals.

“Hydris products are effective on a variety of surfacesii, including glass and mirrors, finished floors, wood laminate furniture, washable walls, stone, metals, kosher metals, plastics and melamine surfaces,” said Lou Richards, vice president and general manager of WAXIE Sanitary Supply. “Hydris provides McCarran a cost-effective alternative for effective cleaning that protects health without harming the environment.”

“Our challenges are our customers’ challenges – and they look to us to provide solutions that help drive overall operational efficiencies,” said Rick Johns, executive vice president and general manager of Ecolab’s Institutional business in North America. “We’re experts at developing products and programs that solve our customers’ issues, but that’s not enough. It’s our field sales-and-service associates who deliver value our customers, like McCarran, have come to expect.”

Hydris recently earned a 2013 Tekne Award from the Minnesota High Tech Association for its impact on the industry. For more information about Hydris and other Ecolab commercial cleaning solutions, visit www.ecolab.com/hydris .

Oakland Township resident Dan Flynn recently set off on a mission to put his neighbors back to work. Last month, Flynn launched City Wide Maintenance of Detroit, a management company in the building maintenance industry that manages 25 facility services including janitorial.

Flynn’s entrepreneurial aspirations stemmed from a longing to help his community find work in Detroit’s unforgiving and unpredictable economic climate. Flynn is one of the many new business owners looking to help Detroit get back on their feet.

City Wide Maintenance is a national franchise building maintenance management company, based in Kansas City. Flynn’s new office in Bloomfield Township will serve commercial properties throughout the Northern Detroit Metropolitan region. Local building owners and property management companies now have access to a single-source solution for all of their building maintenance needs.

“We’ve developed a solution to end the frustration that commercial property owners and property management companies in the Detroit area feel about the amount of time and energy they’ve spent managing vendors, fielding service calls and negotiating rates,” said Flynn, president of City Wide of Michigan. “They now have full access to a round-the-clock facility services manager that will procure, schedule, monitor and ensure that all services are performed with our clients’ best interests in mind.”

City Wide has made a name for itself in major U.S. cities by streamlining commercial facilities and maintenance management of more than 20 services through a collection of service providers and alliance partners, including floor care, window washing, janitorial supplies, parking lot maintenance and several others. Taking the onus off building owners and property management companies that typically have to choose separate companies for each task, City Wide eases the selection and management processes for its clients.

Prior to launching City Wide of Michigan, Flynn had a successful career in banking and commercial real estate but became interested in the entrepreneurial opportunity and value that the City Wide model provides customers. In addition to his professional endeavors, Flynn is the treasurer and a board member of the Rainbow Connection children’s charity located in Rochester.

    Neato-BotVac_85_blue-with charge base

Show of hands: Who likes to vacuum? I'm not raising my hand either. That's why robotic vacuum cleaners have been the stuff of slacker dreams ever since iRobot unleashed the first Roomba more than a decade ago.

Home robots have evolved, and I've been testing out a new Roomba competitor called the Neato BotVac Robot Vacuum 85 from Neato Robotics. I like it, though my experience wasn't completely clean. Models start at $479. My test unit cost $599.

I was especially curious to try Neato because the Newark, Calif., company says it takes advantage of a proprietary laser scanner and navigation software that's based on the same technology Google uses in its driverless cars. After watching Neato plow into a few parked toy trucks in my family room, I'm not sure if I'd ever get into one of those vehicles.

Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania (PRWEB) April 23, 2014

The Pittsburgh Real Estate Investors Association is looking for vendors who provide services to the Pittsburgh real estate market. The club and its membership are searching for service providers who either deal in property maintenance or investor services.

The Pittsburgh REIA is one of the fastest growing real estate investor clubs in America. The club made up of hundreds of real estate investors from the Pittsburgh metro area and beyond. Each of these investors is engaged in buying, selling, renovating, or leasing property in South-West Pennsylvania. Vendor-members are encouraged to interact directly with investors and develop personal relationships.

There are a number of business types that traditionally benefit from exposure to real estate investors. Among these business types are plumbers, electricians, roofers, landscapers, general contractors and any other building trade. The investors who make up the Pittsburgh centered club own hundreds of properties and are always looking for good contractors in Allegheny, Butler, Beaver, Westmoreland, Armstrong, Washington, Green, and other surrounding counties. Service business providers like real estate attorneys, accountants, internet marketing, printers, direct mail marketing, and janitorial services also do really well with real estate investors.

The Pittsburgh Real Estate Investors Association has a growing list of national retailers who provide discount services to club members. Among these discount providers are Home Depot, Lowes, Sherwin Williams, Sears Commercial, Build-A-Sign, and more than twenty others. Any company that offers a discount to club members on the local level would be a welcome addition to the club. Local restaurants, sports teams, and other business interests that have no relationship to the real estate world are also encouraged to apply. Becoming a vendor partner of the Pittsburgh Real Estate Investors Association is the same as any other marketing that targets an upwardly mobile demographic.

Any local or national company interested in becoming a vendor-member of the club should visit the club’s website at http://PittsburghREIA.com and download the membership application or just follow this link. All applications will be reviewed by a committee of local investors. Each applicant will be evaluated under the following criteria; reputation of the business, area serviced by the business, and utility of the business. Approved vendor-members are entitled to attend all club events. This includes all monthly meetings at the Greater Pittsburgh Masonic Center. These meetings are held every third Tuesday and run between 7:00 PM and 9:00 PM.    Vendors may also choose to present classes to the membership about their particular business. The thrust of these classes must be educational in nature and be timed to one hour or less. Vendors can also attend sub-group meeting that are held at various locations around Allegheny County. The sub-groups focus on market niches, and attract smaller crowds of specialized investors. Lastly each vendor member will be permitted to advertise in the clubs online newsletter. This newsletter is emailed to each member of the club. The newsletter is also archived online at the club high

Window Genie announces the grand opening of its newest location in Santa Monica, CA on Monday April 21st. Brian Stocker is the owner/operator. Window Genie is a nationally ranked home service franchise offering window cleaning, window tinting, pressure washing, gutter cleaning and more. Window Genie of West Los Angeles will service the Westside communities of Bel Air, Brentwood, Mar Vista, Marina Del Rey, Pacific Palisades, Santa Monica, Venice, Westwood and surrounding areas.

Before joining the Window Genie team, Stocker spent 20 years in corporate finance helping entrepreneurial companies develop and implement strategies for growth. He said, “My favorite part of the job was having direct interaction with the business owners and contributing to their success. In the fall of 2013 he and his partners sold their company. At that point he decided it was time to strike out on his own.

Stocker chose to look into franchising rather than pursuing a start-up because, “franchising allows for entrepreneurial bootstrapping while mitigating many of the risks that come along with a true stand-alone start-up. A franchise’s proven system and tested infrastructure made it an attractive option for me because I could be my own boss and be in business for myself, but never by myself.”

Stocker worked with Rob McCauley, a franchise coach at The You Network. Together they were able to determine the best franchise opportunities that aligned with Stocker’s strengths, goals, interests and values. Window Genie was among the options presented to Stocker, and really stood out to him. After conducting a meeting via Skype with the corporate office in Cincinnati and speaking with existing Window Genie franchise owners, Stocker knew Window Genie was the right decision for him. He said, “I made my decision to purchase a Window Genie in February 2014 after vetting several home services franchises. What attracted me to Window Genie over the other concepts I vetted was the professionalism and culture of the corporate staff and the success that other new franchisees were experiencing with the system.”

Stocker is excited to open his doors for business and begin building relationships and networking in his community. “What most excites me about owing my own Window Genie franchise is the ability to leverage a proven business model while having total control over my schedule and company culture. I’m a big believer in supporting the communities that I service and Window Genie, through its Windows 4 Wishes initiative, provides me a vehicle to give back to my local communities in the ways that I see fit. In this first year I will be focused on delivering outstanding customer service and building a strong internet presence to support my marketing efforts.”

Window Genie of West Los Angeles officially opens for business on Monday April 21st. For more information or a free estimate, Brian Stocker can be reached at bstocker (at) windowgenie (dot) com or (310) 463-1101. All Window Genie technicians are fully trained, bonded, insured and wear photo ID.

The part-time custodians are being replaced by workers from ABM Janitorial of Waterloo, a private custodial services company. The City Council passed the contract with ABM without discussion in a unanimous vote on Monday night.

The contract appeared as one of 30 other items on the council’s “Resolution Calendar,” a large chunk of the agenda that is voted on in a single motion.
