30 Apr 2025 11:41 AM | Lacie Ward

Bloodborne Pathogen education is very important. Proper training and materials can prevent the spread of infection diseases. The most common are HIV and Hep B. Some examples of proper cleaning and protocols include; Not compressing trash, you could get stuck by a needle. Using proper cleaner and sanitation for cleanup. Communicating potential exposure to your supervisor ASAP.

You should always wear PPE while performing cleaning services for BBP. It is important to protect yourself and others. BBP can be spread through contact with mucus membranes, breaks in the skin, and fluid, such as saliva. There are universal precautions that must be taken.

Be aware of symptoms after potential exposure. Symptoms of HBV include jaundice, diarrhea, and weight loss. Symptoms for HIV include night sweats, flu like symptoms, and loss of appetite. Your employer should offer HBV vaccination.
